Why OT?

What is the purpose of OT?

Simple: to help your child develop confidence and succeed in their daily life!

The fuller answer?

  • Daily activities: OT is not just about handwriting skills.  OT encompasses successfully performing one’s daily activities.

  • Carryover: Long term success of OT depends on parent and teacher “carryover.” This means applying the OT lessons learned in a fun and nurturing way outside of the OT sessions.

  • Empowerment: OT empowers parents to capitalize on your child’s strengths and address your child’s challenges at home and at school.

Why might your child need OT?

Your child is struggling in one or more areas such as fine motor or sensory issues. Your child might:

  • Have difficulty legibly writing their name, or very messy coloring.

  • Dislike certain sensory materials, such as certain clothes or foods.

  • Have challenges with transitions, like getting ready for school in the morning or bed at night.

  • Be a sensory seeker and love to take risks such as jumping off of a high playground structure.

  • Be a sensory avoider and gravitate toward sitting on the sidelines.

  • Experience difficulty accessing and playing with developmentally appropriate toys.

All of these can impact your child’s day to day functioning and confidence.
