Intuitive Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Helpful Insights, Positive Outcomes
Why Intuitive?
Intuitive OT works with the family to meet the child’s needs holistically. I use creative strategies that have been successful for me as a mom, OT, and advocate for my kids.
Specific ways that I merge my OT and parenting skills intuitively include:
Child development: I’m a parent to two girls and a longtime practitioner who’s worked with children in many different school and clinical settings.
Toys: I love finding interesting toys and activities for my children and clients. The best toys are more than just age appropriate or “fun.” They engage the child’s creative side, meet them where they are, and help with carryover.
Advocacy skills: It is vital that parents and children know how to advocate for themselves. In 2016, my daughter Lila was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss at age 4. Over the years, I have both advocated fiercely for her to get her the educational and medical support she needs, and taught her how to advocate fiercely for herself.
Intuitive OT will help parents start drawing the types of connections that have worked for me.
Intuitive OT Program
Conventional pediatric OT involves regular child-focused sessions ranging from a few months to years. Parents are part of the process but may not be truly integrated into the therapy objectives.
Intuitive OT, in contrast, focuses on the family and child and facilitates carryover at home and school. The goal is to achieve positive outcomes through a concentrated set of sessions involving the child, the parents, and in some cases, the teacher.
Intuitive OT uses an integrated approach to:
Ensure the child and parents understand why and how they are using specific OT strategies.
Assist with carryover and ownership of the child’s development and success.
Enable the child and the parents to advocate more effectively for their child’s needs.
Intuitive OT program details are below:
